How Do You Open a Shipping Container?

Opening a shipping container is straightforward once you know how, but if you’ve never done it before, the locking bars and handles can look a little intimidating.

In reality, it only takes a few seconds and the same process applies to most standard shipping containers.

How to Open a Shipping Container

  1. Release the locking catch.
  2. Lift the handle upwards.
  3. Swing the handle all the way to the left until the locking bars disengage.
  4. Open the door.

Once open, you’ll have full access to the container.

How to Close a Shipping Container

Closing the container is just as simple:

  1. Close the door firmly.
  2. Lift the handle.
  3. Turn it fully back to the right.
  4. Make sure the locking bars locate correctly into the catches at the top and bottom.
  5. Push the handle back into place and secure the locking catch.

It’s always worth keeping your fingers clear of the handles and locking bars while closing the doors.
