Health & Safety Advisor and Training Officer

Due to an internal promotion we are looking to recruit a full time Health and Safety and Training Officer based at our Head Office in Heathfield, Newton Abbot.

Dainton Group Services Ltd has experienced exceptional growth over the last 7 years, with plans for further growth over the next 3 years. Currently there are 16 self-storage and business parks across SW England and South Wales. We specialise in internal and external self-storage, shipping containers and portable accommodation sales and hire.

About you:

You should be an experienced Health and Safety professional, who is enthusiastic and passionate about Health and Safety and performance training and in turn be an excellent communicator who can provide Health and Safety guidance and support. You should be proactive in identifying areas that require support and promote a positive Health and Safety culture and have a willingness to learn and develop.

You should preferably be NEBOSH/IOSH qualified, however a willingness to undertake further training and/or additional qualifications is highly desirable, full training can be provided. Able to interpret and communicate complex Health and Safety regulations to the Team and provide training to educate our colleagues and maintain and improve both Health and Safety knowhow and customer service across the Group. A good understanding and familiarity with Health and Safety terminology and the ability to write risk assessments and method statements would be advantageous.
You should ideally have experience, or an interest in staff training and development.

Skills & Experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience of working within a Health and Safety role
  • Highly organised
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel systems
  • A logical, analytical and investigative approach to problem solving and identification of root causes
  • Sound auditing skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels; able to influence and persuade colleagues, improving commitment and buy-in
  • In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and effective management approaches
  • Knowledge and experience of effectively managing typical industry hazards
  • Experience of carrying out risk assessments e.g. fire, workplace transport, manual handling and work process risk assessments to name a few

Duties include:

  • Keeping management and employees informed of any new and developing legislation
  • Ensuring the Company is aware of statutory obligations and codes of practice
  • Ensure the Company is compliant across the Business in all areas of relevant Health and Safety
  • Ensure Risk assessments are in place, produce new and periodic reviews
  • Look at continuous improvement projects and where improvements can be made
  • Maintain safety records
  • Carry out accident investigations and report findings to the Board of Directors
  • Identify Health and Safety training needs and implement training plans
  • Work with all departments to produce and implement Health and Safety solutions that meet legal and business requirements
  • Record and collate accident/incident data
  • Complete reviews and update generic and site specific risk assessments and other key documents
  • New staff induction training
  • Customer service & internal system support training (non H & S)

Salary: £30-35,000 Per Annum (depending on experience level)

Start date: at the earliest opportunity
